Duct Sealing

Duct Sealing

What You Don't Know About Your Ductwork Can Cost A Lot!

If you have a home with a traditional furnace, heat pump, or air conditioner, you have ductwork. The ductwork in your home transports warm or cool air throughout your home.

The problem with ductwork is that it leaks. As a matter of fact, up to 30% of the air that moves through the duct system is lost due to leaks, holes and poorly connected ducts. What you end up with is higher utility bills, compromised indoor air quality and a less comfortable home.

Duct systems are most commonly located within your home’s crawl space & attic areas. Leaking, compromised or disconnected ducting in these areas not only equates to efficiency & comfort losses but also introduces air into the home from these often-undesired areas. By sealing & making the needed corrections you can better ensure you and you & your home are truly receiving the clean filtered air your furnace system is producing.

Here's a short list of the benefits of sealing your ductwork:

  • Comfort – if your rooms are too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, sealing your ductwork can help dramatically.
  • Indoor Air Quality – sealing your ductwork can help improve IAQ by reducing the risk of pollutants entering the ducts and then circulating through your house. Fumes like household chemicals, garden chemicals, insulating particles and dust can enter your duct system if it isn't sealed properly.
  • Safety – leaky ductwork can cause "backdrafting" where the gases from your gas appliances (water heaters, clothes dryer & furnace release combustion gases like carbon monoxide), are drawn back into the living space, rather than expelled outdoors. Sealing leaks can minimize this risk.
  • Save Money – sealing ducts increases efficiency, which lowers your energy bills. Many homeowners say it pays for itself in energy savings. And if you are buying a new heating and cooling system, it may allow you to downsize to a smaller and less costly furnace or heat pump.
  • Protect the Environment – Energy used in our homes comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which contributes to smog, acid rain and global warming.

A duct system that is well-designed and properly sealed can save more than just dollars - it makes sense.
